Fortunately, tube feeding cats is rarely necessary. Only when the animal is too weak to eat or suck on its own we need to resort to tube feeding. Also motherless newborns for whom no foster mom can be found, will often have to be raised with tube feeding. With better knowledge about the genetics behind HCM the researchers could not only develop new gene tests to help the breeders, but also to develop better medications and other treatment for the affected cats. We hope many breeders and other cat owners will participate in this important project!
